Description
This handkerchief pattern spans at least two centuries, with examples being seen from the 18th and 19th century. Various sizes of designs have been seen from various examples. A handkerchief with this pattern from the 19th century can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Boston, and an example that was attributed to an Illinois soldier in the Civil War was recently sold at auction. Our example is 100% cotton and features the pattern printed on a faded crimson background and measures 35 x 30 inches.
