Black silk buttons produced by the Williston's and other companies in the mid 19th century were very flat with pad (Canvas) shanks. 

We are now able to recreate the flat profile and when paired with black silk taffeta from Needle & Thread, makes a nearly perfect replica of the 19th century flat button.
